The purpose of this award is to annually recognize the Virginia DeMolay who, over the course of his DeMolay career, best represents the fourth precept in his life and in particular in his dealings with other DeMolays. The Virginia DeMolay Brotherhood Award was created in 1988 to honor "Dad" Richard Allen Duvall after his death. It is an award specific to Virginia DeMolay for recognizing brotherhood and is part of the state's DeMolay awards program. Any individual may nominate any Virginia DeMolay to receive this award. The Director of Competitions will appoint a committee of previous Brotherhood Award designees to the Brotherhood Award Selection Committee each year. Only members of the appointed committee, the State Master Councilor, the Executive Officer and the Director of Competitions will be privy to the identity of the nominees and the selected designee. Nominees may not know of their nomination for this award.
