Virginia DeMolay Competition & Award Winners
Howard K. Smith Membership Award
Dad Smith was a Senior DeMolay from Leon P. Moffett Chapter No. 2092, in Big Spring, Texas. In 1969, he received his Legion of Honor. In 1980, shortly before his son turned 13, he became an Advisor for John Blair Chapter and quickly became Chapter Advisor. He was awarded the Chevalier Degree in 1982. He and his wife, Sallie, opened their home for many years for visiting State Officers and Chapters to stay after attending Northern Region events. In 1983, he was named Advisor of the Year, and stated in his usual modest way that he was “just the representative of all of the Advisors of the year”. He served as Executive Officer of Virginia from 1987 – 2002. Dad Smith passed away on October 13, 2019, at his home in Lexington, Va.
