Dresden Cook Presented with Past Master Councilor’s Meritorious Service Award

Virginia DeMolay is proud to announce that Dresden Cook has been awarded the Past Master Councilor’s Meritorious Service Award (PMC-MSA), in recognition of his outstanding leadership during his term as Master Councilor of Ashburn Chapter from August 16, 2025, to February 21, 2026.

A Well-Rounded Term of Service

Dresden set out a full program for his term and saw it through with steady leadership and the support of his chapter. He ensured Ashburn Chapter planned and conducted at least one event in each required category, along with official visitations, an obligatory day observance, and a chapter-wide fundraising push.

Social Activities included a bowling event on January 18, 2026, where Dresden spent the evening on the lanes alongside fellow members and several prospective members.

Community Service was fulfilled through the Hunter Lodge Car Show on August 23, 2025, where Dresden spent five to seven hours selling raffle tickets for the lodge — and even struck up a conversation with representatives from a military academy about the possibility of starting a new DeMolay chapter there.

Fundraising centered on the Active Minds Charity Dinner, Auction, and Dance on December 13, 2025. The chapter raised $5,270.80, with roughly 50 guests in attendance. Dresden himself raised over $500 by agreeing to have three five-gallon buckets of ice water poured over him — a memorable moment for a good cause.

Masonic Service came at the Ashburn-Sterling Lodge Installation on December 13, 2025, where Dresden helped set up and break down the room for the newly installed lodge officers.

Athletics featured a paintball outing at Hogback Mountain, which drew a strong turnout of chapter members, guests, and prospective members.

Growing the Chapter

Dresden set a membership goal of five new members for his term. While the chapter initiated three new members, falling short of that goal due to candidate scheduling conflicts and the lack of an available degree team, Dresden worked to build a strong pipeline for the future — closing his term with six signed, approved candidates awaiting initiation. To support membership growth, he hosted four dedicated membership-focused events: a Top Golf outing on September 21, 2025, a paintball outing on October 11, 2025, an Up Adventure Park outing on November 15, 2025, and a bowling event on January 18, 2026.

Obligatory Days and Visitations

Dresden ensured the chapter honored its obligatory days with meaning. On Frank S. Land Memorial Day, observed during the chapter meeting on November 12, 2025, members paused to recognize and thank their advisors for their service and dedication. Educational Day was marked on February 11, 2026, with a presentation on Robert’s Rules of Order, and Day of Comfort was fulfilled through the Active Minds Charity Dinner on December 13, 2025.

Ashburn Chapter also completed four official visitations during Dresden’s term, strengthening ties across Virginia DeMolay.

A Reflection on Leadership

In his final letter, Dresden reflected candidly on both the successes and the challenges of his term. He credited the chapter’s continued involvement and activity to the collective efforts of its members and advisors, and noted the time he spent mentoring his successor in planning for the upcoming term and its goals. Dresden encouraged future chapter leadership to begin degree planning early to help sustain activity and membership growth.

The Past Master Councilor’s Meritorious Service Award was created by DeMolay’s founder to recognize Master Councilors who lead with vision, planning, and teamwork. Dresden Cook has honored that legacy. Ashburn Chapter, its advisory council, and Virginia DeMolay extend their heartfelt congratulations to Dresden on this outstanding achievement.
